Welcome to somd.com!
Southern Maryland Online was introduced to the world on April 4, 1996. Since then we've received hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. Our guests have included relocating military and government personnel, who send us e-mail thanking us for assisting their transition; former Southern Maryland residents, from as far away as Italy and Finland, who want to remain up-to-date on the happenings in their home towns; incoming students of St. Mary's College and Harry Lundeberg School; and professionals researching the job market. But over half of our readers are people living right here in St. Mary's, Charles, Calvert, and Anne Arundel Counties, who want to immerse themselves in the lifestyle that is Southern Maryland.
We've been recognized by USA CityLink, Ultimate World, CityNet, Maryland Electronic Capital, and the Washington Post, to name a few, as the leading source of information for Southern Maryland. We also provide a free home for the websites of local charities, churches and community organizations as well as the Town of Leonardtown website, which features all the history and exciting new developments that make it unique.
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive resource guide, a sort of "one-stop shopping", for Southern Maryland. Being "net-heads" ourselves, we know that surfing through the 600 million websites on the Internet is tedious and time-consuming. We've tried to make Southern Maryland Online as easy to navigate as possible, with links that make sense, a menu on every page, and an internal search engine. We provide community forums, so guests can communicate with other Southern Marylanders and voice their opinions on a variety of topics. Our classifieds section boasts free auto-posting, and is one of our most popular features. In addition, we have original articles, fun links, a chat room and virtual postcards, plus contests and giveaways for everything from restaurant gift certificates to sports equipment.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors. Without them, we wouldn't be able to provide this information resource. Please use their services, and tell them you saw them on Southern Maryland Online.
We'd especially like to thank you, our guests, who have said so many nice things about our "e-zine."
